I was not lucky enough to have Mr. Lampman as a teacher. However, my high school boyfriend had him for
3rd period and as any lovestruck teenager, where ever J was, I was until the bell rang. Despite not being in
his class, Mr. Lampman taught me many things and made a huge impact on me as a student. He was nice
and funny and never made a student feel stupid. He made us all feel like we had a voice and that it should be heard.
After I graduated college, I accepted a job as the Dance Director of my old high school. I was 23 and scared to death. How was I going to teach these kids that were merely 5 years younger than me? Most of them I had babysat or hung out with their older siblings! Mr. Lampman was the first teacher to reach out to me and remind me that I could do this job and do it well. He was there to explain school policies and all of those forgotten rules that teachers are supposed to follow. He was also there when I resigned because I felt I was too young to give up on my dream of performing. He encouraged me to go after my dreams and believed that I would do great things.
Whether the allegations about him are true or not, it doesn't change the positive impact he had on me and THOUSANDS of other students. He was an amazing teacher and an amazing friend. Here's to you Lampman!

So sorry to hear about this...tough when it's just about allegations and the truth has really not come out!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to honor his legacy!
