If I Were Being Interviewed By My Grandkids

Last month I signed up to get a daily email from Fab, Fit, Fun!  Their site features lots of different subjects like fitness, beauty, news, entertainment, and more! They also have a very cool subscription box that delivers full-size premium products 4X a year.  Sign me up for that!

Yesterday they posted a story called 9 Cool Questions To Ask About Your Heritage and it reminded me of the time in school when I was asked to interview my grandparents.  I loved hearing all of their unique stories about growing up, World War 2, and of course their stories about my mom and dad.  I started thinking about how one day, my grandkids would be the ones asking the questions and I wondered what my answers would be.

So here are 9 Cool Questions About My Heritage (as told to my future grand kids)
1. Do you remember any fads from your youth — popular hairstyles, clothes, etc.?
A VERY popular hairstyle when I was growing up was The Rachel.  Rachel was a character on a cult classic TV show called Friends and she was everyone's favorite.

Another popular fad when I was younger was wearing tons of little butterfly clips in your hair.  If you were cool, you had these clips in different colors & patterns and you found ways to wear them with almost every outfit.  Yes, we even wore them to prom.

2. What about the pop culture back in the day? Favorite type of music? Movies?
Well back when I was growing up, this band called NSYNC was, like, EVERYTHING to everyone!  Their lead singer Justin - yes the one with the jerry curl - was the HOTTEST guy we'd ever seen and we knew every lyric to every song.  I owned all of their CDs.  Oh wait, you don't know what CDs are huh?  Well, we can cover that at another time.

3. How were holidays and special occasions celebrated? Any special traditions?
Holidays were always split between my mom and dad (your great grandparents).  I celebrated Christmas Eve with my dad's family and Christmas with my mom's family.  We'd open presents, cook all of the same foods I cook for holidays now, and play this domino game called Chickenfoot.
4. What world events had an impact on you while growing up?
Several world events impacted my life but probably the biggest was September 11, 2001.  Before that, airports felt safe, we didn't have to have that little bag with all of our liquids, and our loved ones could wait right at the gate with us.  Our country changed in much bigger ways that day and none of us were ever the same.
5. Have any recipes been passed down to you from family members? Describe a typical family dinner.
My Mema (your great great grandmother) cooked EVERYTHING when we had family dinners so she passed all of her recipes down to me.  I now know make her giblet gravy, cornbread dressing, chocolate pie, green bean casserole, Chicken Chowder, taco sauce, and more.
6. Are there any special heirlooms that have been passed down in the family? Photos? Jewelry?
Probably the 2 most special pieces of jewelry that I own are my Nana's wedding band and a diamond cross necklace that was made from jewels in my Nana's jewelry.  When my Nana passed away, my aunt had all of the granddaughters a special necklace made from the diamond jewelry my Nana left behind.
7. Are there any specific physical characteristics that run in the family?
On my mom's side, the McEntryre side, the women tend to have tiny waists and curvy bootys.  On my dad's side, the Nichols side, thick hair and (what I call) a five-head (no seriously, I can fit my whole palm on my forehead).
8. What has been the main religion in the family? Have any beliefs changed through time?
I was raised in a Presbyterian church until 8th grade and then attended a Methodist church.  My dad's family is baptist but I am non-denominational.
9. What is the history/meaning behind the family’s last name? Surnames? Do we have a family crest?
McEntyre is Scottish and it was the name given to a person who worked as a carpenter.
Nichols is English and German and apparently means conquer people.

What would some of your answers be?
