Attitude Adjustment

via

It's no secret that having a bad attitude is the quickest way for bad things to happen.  It's the quickest way to get dumped, fired, kicked out, and well, you get the idea.  A good attitude can shape your whole day just as a bad attitude can kill it.

If you really think about it, our attitude whether good or bad, really affects every aspect of our lives.  I know for myself, I don't always like everything about my full time job. Sometimes I don't want to do certain tasks or meet with certain people.  However, I know that if I go into the task or the meeting with a frustrated and negative attitude, it is only going to make the experience that much worse.  If I go into it with a smile on my face (even if I don't whole heartedly mean that smile), 9 times out of 10 the task is a little less daunting.

I recently worked with someone on a project that I absolutely clicked with.  This person was talented, creative, and extremely nice.  To me.  I was very surprised to find out that this individual was known to other people as an attitude problem and sometimes, just a flat out jerk.  I honestly couldn't believe that this amazing person that I enjoyed being around could be such a sore spot for others.  I fought hard for this person's reputation but eventually had to listen to the several other people that were contradicting me and accept the fact that maybe there was an attitude problem.

I've seen tons of people ruin perfectly good opportunities because they have an attitude towards their boss, coach, captain, or whoever.  I was raised in a house where you listened to your teachers, coaches, directors and you did what they asked.  If you didn't agree with it, you found a positive way to voice your opinion at the appropriate time and you DEFINITELY didn't have a bad attitude. When I got to college and was in the dance department I was shocked to see how many people didn't share this way of thinking.  I saw tons of girls lose their spot in a sorority, in a dance, a relationship, and jobs.

I'm not saying I don't ever have a bad attitude about things.  It's next to impossible not to sometimes. However, now that I'm old and wise, I am trying more and more to go into all of life's situations with at least a positive heart.  Whether it's that early morning workout you don't want to go to, that annoying co-worker who just grinds your gears, or even your significant other that NEVER cleans up after themselves, having a bad attitude towards these situations is a sure-fire way for a negative outcome.  Next time you have to deal with a negative situation, try coming at it with a smile and a positive attitude.  You'd be surprised at how a smile and a word of encouragement can change a situation in the blink of an eye.

  1. Oh boy - bad attitudes are 0 fun!!! I think people forget that life will not always be how they want it to be...they just want to impose their bad moods on everyone else around them!! When all else fails - kill them with kindness!
