My Life's Soundtrack…..part 1

It's no secret that my life is filled with music at all times. Growing up with a mom who can sing and play the piano and a dad who can sing and play any instrument you give him, it was inevitable that I would love music.

In honor of my birthday week, I thought it would be fun to look at some of the music that has shaped my life. Some of the music comes from movies, boy bands, oldies classics, country, rap, etc!  Are all of them amazing songs/albums? Absolutely not! But they are tied to some very strong memories I have.

*When I started writing this post, I realized that it was going to be extremely long being that there are 30 years of music to get through. This may be a 2-parter.

The Wizard of Oz Soundtrack

I remember this being 1 of the first movies I ever watched. I was in awe of the music, the dancing, and the story and I totally wanted those red shoes. I think my very first tap dance was to "We're Off to See the Wizard"!

New Kids On the Block - Hangin Tough & Step By Step

I remember the year that I had two stepsisters and 2 step cousins that were around my age (If you picked up on that awkward family dynamic then we can for sure be friends). We would all pick a NKOTB to be our pretend boyfriends and then we'd make up dances to every song. I also had the lunch box, bedding set, curtains, sleeping bag, dolls, and then made my mom tape their saturday morning cartoon so I could watch it over and over.

Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice

I'm going to assume you all are smart enough to understand this obsession.  Moving on.

Serious Hits Live - Phil Collins

Remember when I said my dad was a musician?  Well he played this cd a lot because the guitar parts are amazing. Don't worry, I was also raised on the Eagles, Doobie Brothers, Hendrix, Clapton, and of course...

Live at the BBC - The Beatles

My dad played Beatles albums all the time but it wasn't until I went to a sleepover at the dance studio that I started to love them on my own. One of the older girls played this cd and the next day, I took my allowance money and bought it myself. The obsession still lives on.

Joey Lawrence

I loved the show Blossom when I was little and I was so excited for the episode when Joey premiered his music video.  This cd was played a lot in my boombox and then a lot in college when a friend also admitted that she loved Joey like I did (ahem, Sheana)!

Why Haven't I Heard From You - Reba McEntire

I knew every word to this song (probably still do) and even made up my own dance moves!  Mom has a video of my lovely performance somewhere in the archives.

Gangster's Paradise - Coolio

In 6th grade you were only cool if you knew every word to this song. Every. Single. Word. I remember making my friend Katie stay on the phone with me until I could get them all right.

16 Stone - Bush

I was such a rocker in elementary school.

Baby One More Time - Britney

Of course Brit Brit would make the list!  Jr. High was filled with dreams of being one of her back-up dancers one day. I also wanted to start wearing crop tops and low cut jeans that year.

Bye Bye Bye - NSYNC
via

Team NSYNC all the way!  This cd is still played a lot in my car. Random fun fact, I went to Jr. High and High School with the girl in the Bye Bye Bye video.

Ok ok I realize that most of the people on this list are not "great musicians" but these are the songs that are tied to some pretty epic memories. Stay tuned for part 2 tomorrow.
